The Alternative New Yorker List

Now here's a "20 Under 40" List I can agree with (partially). Dzanc's list of 20 Under 40 Writers Worth Watching List, selected by 100 or so bookstore owners, publishers, and agents. I think have more innovative writers. The only problem, as the comments have pointed to, is the lack of diversity. All writers are white and all are from the middle class spectrum of writers (same education types, etc). There's one queer writer (Lori Ostlund, but this is only a conjecture), but overall the list is of all like-minded people.

The point to learn from these lists is that they don't really matter and cannot fully represent anything. If you're writing to get on a list, you're writing for the wrong reasons.
